DIVORCE PLANNING
A Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, or CDFA®, works with you and your divorce attorney to take into account any of the short-term and long-term financial implications of a divorce.
Working With A
CERTIFIED DIVORCE FINANCIAL ANALYST - CDFA®
The CDFA® is part of the divorce team and, as a financial expert, can help you achieve a financial resolution in many different areas:
-
Advise in the areas of alimony, division of property and valuing the future value of pension plans.
-
Help you understand why a simple 50/50 division of assets may not always be the most equitable.
-
Identify sources of income, expenses, budgeting, life insurance and child support.
-
Appear as an expert witness in arbitration, mediation or court proceedings - lawyers are not allowed to testify on behalf of their clients in court.
Financial problems may be a primary reason for the divorce. If a couple is unable to manage financial difficulties during a marriage, it is unlikely they will be able to independently solve them in divorce. A CDFA® is required to have a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation which means they have significant expertise and training in all areas of personal finance. In addition to providing divorce support, they are a resource for future financial planning needs:
-
Help clients understand how a divorce settlement will impact their short-term and long-term financial goals.
-
Identify what kind of lifestyle they should expect post divorce.
-
Set realistic objectives for retirement, education funding, etc.
-
Examine the short-term and long-term effects of dividing property and determine the affordability of the family home following a divorce.
-
Create detailed reports that analyze the division of assets.
